The primary role of a Response Dispatch Officer (RDO) is to ensure that reports from businesses, government and community are assigned a priority rating and responded to within the appropriate timeframe. They do this by assessing reports and notifications in accordance with the triage procedure, contacting reporters to gain further information and intelligence, and where applicable, providing compliance advice to industry or referring reports to the appropriate regulator. Reports requiring an operational response are assigned to the appropriate Environment Protection Officer (EPO) or Officer for the Protection of the Local Environment (OPLE) for planned or immediate investigation.
Response Dispatch Officers will also provide support to the State Duty Officer who is EPAs primary contact for all emergency response activities.
The role supports the Senior Response Dispatch Officer (SRDO) in ensuring the Directorate has the capability and capacity to respond to emergencies and pollution incidents. The role facilitates incident response as part of a rotating roster covering normal business hours, weekend and afterhours incident response. The roster begins on a 16-week cycle of 4 days alternating business and afterhours. Shift work allowances apply to all weekend, public holiday and weekday afternoon shifts.
The RDO may also perform routine reporting and administration tasks as required.
