Artbank is a program of the Australian Government that directly supports contemporary artists through the acquisition of their work while actively promoting the value of Australian visual culture to both the public and private sectors. The Artbank collection of approximately 10,000 artworks is made available through a leasing program. Artworks from the Artbank collection are rented by private, commercial and government clients, and Australian embassies around the world.
Artbank is a program administered through The Arts Division, a division of the Department of Communications and the Arts responsible for programs and policies that ensure the sustainability of Australia’s arts and culture sector - supporting artistic production, protecting and strengthening cultural heritage and expression, and encouraging opportunities for public engagement with arts and culture.
Artbank has been operating successfully for over 38 years.
The position of Art Consultant is responsible for connecting potential and existing clients from both the public and private sectors, with artworks in the Artbank Collection, primarily through the art leasing program. Working as part of a team of Art Consultants based in Sydney and Melbourne, this role is a key client service position within the organisation – requiring dual visual arts knowledge and commercial acumen.
Through the provision of high-level art consultancy services you will act as a public face for the organisation – working with potential and existing clients in support of Artbank’s art leasing program. You will be a great communicator and possess the ability to interpret a client’s need and translate this into a tailored (curated) selection of artworks drawn from the Artbank collection. Importantly, you will also be able to balance the need for revenue generation alongside Artbank’s objectives of supporting and promoting Australian art and artists. You will achieve this through a work ethic second to none and a sales/customer service approach to be envied. This role makes a significant contribution to Artbank’s organisational objectives through supporting the development and implementation of business development strategies, driving new business and setting and meeting financial and other performance targets.
