Cassowary Coast Regional Council: Better Together

The Leading Hand will work collaboratively with the Supervisor Delivery Services to embed an operating model
The highest standards of maintenance and delivery on all assets promoting the appropriate use and
engagement of the asset for the broader community. Assets include but are not limited to:
Parks and Gardens
The Leading Hand will lead a delivery team in their day to day operations and ensure employees maintain
appropriate capabilities to carry out tasks as set out in consultation with the Supervisor Delivery Services.
With the community in mind and through consultation and feedback, you will lead a team to deliver packages
of operational maintenance works that have been allocated from the planned and scheduled maintenance
program. You will be a ‘front facing’ representative of the Council, increasing interaction and usage by the
broader community in a safe fit for purpose space.
Keeping the customer at the heart of all activities, the Leading Hand Delivery Services will:
Lead your service delivery team in the day to day operations and
o ensure they log their work time accurately against work orders,
o that their practice is safe and productive,
o eliminate inefficiencies and improve work practices,
o assist supervisor in performing frontline people management,
o ensure appropriate resources are provided and refine work programs as required
o manage the start and completion of jobs and work orders
Ensure all workplace health and safety policies and procedures, risk assessments, safe work method
statements, traffic management plans and other required compliance activities are understood and
undertaken prior to tasks commencing.
Follow reasonable directives to maintain critical business or core services in the event of an unplanned
disruption, including but not limited to a disaster.
The delivery of packages of operational maintenance work will occur in accordance with the a planned
scheduling and maintenance program, meeting the key measures set for that program and reactive
requirements will be addressed on a priority basis defined by risk.
The Leading Hand’s team will be agile.
Continuous improvement of customer service, systems, policies and procedures is practiced behaviour.
All WHS, traffic management, standard operating procedures and PPE policies and procedures are
followed by employees.
Service standards are consistently achieved for all asset types and performance issues are addressed and

Demonstrated experience in leading a multi-skilled team.
Demonstrated experience in the efficient delivery of a plan and schedule of work developed by others, along
with demonstrated ability to apply judgement when minor changes to the plan and schedule are warranted.
Demonstrated effective communication skills, negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution.
Demonstrated experience in the application of best practice as they pertain to assets including parks and
open space, workplace health and safety, transport networks and drains.
Current “MR” class drivers licence.
Demonstrated ability and applicable qualifications to operate and maintain a range of equipment including
ride-on mowers, ATV, tippers and brush cutters.
TMI – DTMR.
Current traffic control ticket.
Construction Industry General Induction (white card).
Certificate III in Horticulture.
Current ACDC certificate.
Current Chainsaw operators ticket (Level II).
Previous experience with Mobile Technology / Tablet utilisation in a works environment.
This position reports directly to the Supervisor Delivery Services.
