Mental Health Consumer Peer Support Worker Jobs Vacancy in Melbourne Health Melbourne Jobs Details:

  • 2 x Part Time (0.5 EFT) roles available working Monday - Friday

  • Newly created position for an Enhanced Intervention function

  • Northern Area Mental Health Service (NAMHS) – Hotham Street Community Team (Preston)/ Community Team North (Epping)


Life With Us:
NAMHS has recently received funding for an Enhanced Intervention function to be embedded in our 2 existing community based teams. The team will consist of clinicians and lived experience peer support workers.

We are seeking individuals with a lived experience who are keen to work intensively with consumers on their recovery journey. The role of consumer peer support worker is an innovative role offering various types of direct support to consumers. The role is special and unique because it is informed by the workers own lived experience of mental ill health and recovery.

Who are we? - The Northern Area Mental Health Service (NAMHS) provides a comprehensive range of specialist mental health services to people who reside in the local government areas of Darebin and Whittlesea.


Clinical Programs provided by the NAMHS include:

  • Adult Community Services (2 Community Teams)
  • Adult Acute Inpatient Service (50 beds)
  • EMH (including PACER) and Consultation and Liaison Psychiatry Service at the Northern Hospital
  • Community Care Unit
  • Prevention and Recovery Care Service (PARC)

  • Actively engage and build a therapeutic alliance with the consumer and understand the needs and preferences of the person and their carers/family
  • Provide recovery oriented interventions in collaboration with people presenting with complex and enduring mental illness
  • Provide time limited goal focused intensive community based interventions and outreach support as indicated to consumers and their families
  • Provide interventions to assist in better outcomes for consumers and carers
Your Contribution:
  • Ability to use knowledge and skills arising from a lived experience of having been a consumer/user of mental health services.
  • Problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to consult, liaise and work collaboratively with consumers,
  • An ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to work with consumers, family/carers and service providers in direct service provision
