We are honoured to introduce our Early Childhood Development Program located in Elizabeth, South Australia. This newly created program, currently wholly funded by Yourtown has been established with the purpose to improve child development and wellbeing to enhance the educational engagement and outcomes of vulnerable children aged 3-5.
Child and Family counsellor – Will provide child centred, family focused therapeutic and counselling responses to children with developmental delays and who may have experienced or are experiencing trauma. This will include utilising a variety of modalities within a trauma informed strengths based framework.
Due to the nature of this opportunity, this role will be needed on a part-time basis (0.6 P/T) to meet the needs of the families that have been engaged in the program. It is a requirement that the part-time hours are worked over 5 days per week eg. Over the hours of 9am-2.30pm, Monday to Friday, with some flexibility, to offer appropriate times for the families to attend.
You will ensure quality services that enhance the lives of young people and families by focusing on their strengths and inherent abilities. You will also provide appropriate therapeutic assessment and counselling interventions for children and their families within a strengths based, client centred, trauma informed practice framework.
It is important to the success of this program to have flexibility around the scope of duties that align with this role and as we evolve with the new program.
You will have a Bachelor qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or equivalent. Along with these essential qualifications, you will have substantial experience (min of 3 years) working with children, young people and adults with complex needs. Working within professional boundaries, you will have demonstrated ability to build strong rapport and engage with children and families.
You will be outcome focused, with strong knowledge of current evidence-based practice, programs, policies, legislation and trends and possess excellent communication, conflict resolution, report writing skills and highly developed planning and time management skills.
Above all, a passion for working with children and young people to improve their quality of life is essential.
In addition to the above, it is essential that you hold, or have the ability to gain certification for the following compliance requirements and prior to commencing work with young people:
- Working with Children Clearance – DCSI, SA
- Responding to Abuse and Neglect – Education and Abuse (RAN-EC) Certification
- Child Safety Environment (CSE) Certification
- National Criminal History Check
- Unrestricted drivers licence
