The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is looking for strong communicators who enjoy working in an issues-rich environment to join our small, dynamic media team.
The media team plays a crucial role in working with the media to ensure consumers’ rights under the Australian Consumer Law are well understood, amplifying deterrence messages through our enforcement activities, and effectively communicating our competition and regulatory decisions to the business and legal communities.
There are three roles available:
1. Media Assistant: To manage and direct media enquiries as they reach us.
2. Media Advisor: To support our regulated infrastructure and competition divisions.
3. Assistant Director: To run our product safety and consumer-facing media.
The Media Assistant and Media Advisor roles are being offered on a two-year contract, the Assistant Director role is ongoing.
Duties and Experience
General duties include assisting journalists with enquiries, drafting, editing and managing approval processes for media releases and statements, and working with business areas to develop and implement media strategy.
Successful candidates will be clear communicators with strong writing and excellent interpersonal skills, who enjoy working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
Experience as a media adviser working in business, government, or a public relations agency, or a former journalist with some media liaison experience is essential, with a Bachelors’ degree in a communications-related discipline desirable.
Knowledge or experience in working on issues related to the ACCC’s will be an advantage.
