Brauer College is a high performing government school in Victoria. It is located in Warrnambool, a provincial city in the southwest of the state with a population of 33,000 in the city and more in the small towns of the College's catchment area. Brauer’s enrolment is approximately 750 students from years 7-12. Brauer College offers courses of study for students in years 7-12. These initially aim to build upon skills developed at primary school, then allow students to follow a diverse range of paths as their talents and aspirations develop. This is achieved through an extensive vertically-integrated option system from Year 8, an accelerated learning program, a broad range of VCE subjects, and extensive links at senior levels with other educational institutions and the community.
Brauer College, provide an integrated student health, well-being and learning enhancement service as part of our comprehensive curriculum. The Student Services Hub is a multidisciplinary framework underpinned by youth friendly principles. It aims to ensure students have access to a number of internal learning support, health and wellbeing services in addition to external providers that work in collaboration with the College. This model supports students to develop a greater sense of school connectedness, self-confidence and academic achievement.
Teaching/Social Work qualification preferred but not essential, as there is a significant counselling role in this position

Selection Criteria

SC1 Capacity to provide leadership within an integrated health and wellbeing team.
SC2 Highly developed communication, networking and interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of people in the education community and beyond.
SC3 Suitable experience in counselling and complex case management to ensure the engagement and wellbeing of a diverse range of students

SC4 Ability to prioritise and manage high-risk situations in a dynamic environment, in accordance with duty of care practices.

SC5 Suitable experience in the initiation, development and implementation of programs, procedures and policies that foster resilience in young people and address their physical, social and emotional needs to support their educational needs
SC6 Highly developed capacity to assess, conceptualise and analyse student wellbeing issues that translate to improving student outcomes

Role

Teaching/Social Work qualification preferred but not essential, as there is a significant counselling role in this position

Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions. Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations.

Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal. Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school. Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.

Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the delivery of support services to students, teachers, parents and other school clients.
  • Ensure all external providers deliver the required service.
Key Duties
  • Manage day to day operation of the Student Services Team
  • Counselling and Assessment
  • Manage high risk and complex situations
  • Group work - preventative/health promotion programs for students
  • Support students' additional needs/learning enhancement and liaise with DET Student Support Services
  • Mentoring across school community
  • Support and advice to principal Class and Coordinators
  • Ensuring appropriate support levels, processes and policies are maintained across school
  • Engagement and networking with external service providers
