The Faculty of Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. As the first university in Australia to grant degrees in science (1882), science has long been at the cornerstone of the institution and this continues today. The School of Agriculture, Food and Wine is embedded in the Faculty of Sciences. The school is located at the University's Waite campus, the pre-eminent agricultural and wine science research site in the Southern Hemisphere. The School offers academic programs in food and nutrition science, applied biology, agricultural science, viticulture and oenology and plant biotechnology. The School of Agriculture, Food and Wine has world-class expertise and facilities in human nutrition, agricultural and plant sciences, plant breeding, viticulture and oenology and biochemistry. The School is home to a range of research centers and works closely with a number of co-located partners including CSIRO (Agriculture, Land & Food), South Australian Research & Development Institute and Australian Wine Research Institute, as well as the South Australian Health & Medical Research Institute.
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join us as part of a Grains Research & Development Corporation (GRDC) funded project that is part of the National Frost Initiative. Under the general direction of the project supervisors, the research officer will complete laboratory and field-based research for a GRDC funded project that aims to investigate nitrogen rate, time of sowing and/or crop type management to mitigate against frost. In doing so, protocols and experimental approaches will be developed that will assist in providing economic information that minimises the financial impact of frost.
This fixed-term position is available immediately until June 2019 in the first instance.
Salary: (HEO6) $77,316-$83,548 per annum, plus an employer superannuation contribution of up to 17% applies.
Term of position: This fixed-term contract is available immediately until June 2019.
To be successful you should have:
1. Demonstrated understanding, at an appropriate level, in the area of crop genetics and crop physiology.
2. Demonstrated skills in plant sampling (preferably cereal crops) and analysis from field-based experiments.
3. Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyse data to inform decision making processes.
4. Excellent communication skills, as evidenced through report writing and delivery of oral presentations.
You should have completed a Bachelor degree in Sciences or Agricultural Sciences (or related discipline) with relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education/training/experience.
